CONCERNING THE BREED

The Chow Chow is a breed of special pleasures that is dignified, serious-minded, and distant. Chows are strong, little canines that can reach a shoulder height of 20 inches. They are characterized by a stiff-legged walk, deep-set almond eyes that contribute to a haughty, frowning look, a blue-black tongue, and a lion's-mane ruff around the head and shoulders.

Red, black, blue, cinnamon, or cream coats can be smooth or rough on chows. Because they are reputed to be as picky as cats, housebreak readily, and have minimal canine odor, owners claim that Chows are the cleanest of all dogs. Socially adept Chows are always elegant and polite, never harsh or unbeatable. They are steadfastly devoted to those they love and distant from strangers. Chows adapts to city life with ease and doesn't require any special exercise.
